October is the New January: Make the Most of the Last 3 Months of 2022!

“Reflection is looking in so you can look out with a broader, bigger, and more accurate perspective.” — Mick Ukleja and Robert Lorber

Congratulations! You made it to October.

If you are like me, you started 2022 with big dreams and goals. If you don't think you've made enough progress - don't fret. With October falling right before the big uptick in social gatherings, it is a great time to draw in and reflect. You may find a collection of small wins from the year that you have overlooked! Leverage this window of time before the holiday rush to start strategizing for your success in the year ahead.

Your Year in Review

In the same way businesses and organizations conduct annual audits and strategic planning meetings for their overall vision and mission, you can start strategy planning for your life or business by setting aside time to conduct your own "year-in-review". It's like a step back to launch forward. You reflect on the past 9 months and re-assess what you've experienced, and accomplished. This groundwork positions you to create a clear vision of success for 2023, and identify how you can recalibrate NOW to make the most out of the last three months of the year.

Getting Started

Becoming a strategic thinker is critical to getting traction and making progress toward your goals. In our planning work with teams, we listen intently and ask the kind of questions that help the group reflect, think critically, and identify themes and trends. It is important to start your reflection with powerful guiding questions, especially if you are a creative/maker, freelancer, or you're conducting a year-in-review as a "team of one".

My Top 3 Reflection Questions to Jumpstart Your Year-in-Review

  1. Before doing a deep dive into 2022, what do you already know needs to change in 2023?

  2. What did you prioritize this year and why?

  3. What positive impact did those priorities have on your life or business?

Here are some additional reflection questions from our team warm-up exercises that you may also find helpful:

  • What beliefs, relationships, or things did you let go of in order to achieve your goals this year?

  • What challenges did you experience? Did you anticipate any of them or did you feel blind-sided?

  • What inspired or energized you this year?

  • What did you do this year that aligned with your calling?
